MiCT presented a discussion entitled Sudan Votes – Media as a Mediator? Speakers focused on the state of media in Sudan as the country prepared for elections for the first time in over twenty years. Guest speakers included Sudanese journalist and activist, Faisal Mohamed Saleh, Mary Justo Tombe of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau and MiCT’s own Roman Deckert.

The speakers focused on coverage of the elections, questions of identity and independence, as well as the issues around censorship in what was then northern and southern Sudan.
