NIQASH

NIQASH is a trilingual website (Arabic, English, Kurdish) on politics, media and culture in Iraq. Since March 2005 an international editorial team, in cooperation with a network of Iraqi correspondents, researches and publishes background information on the following topics (in chronological order): preparation, holding, and analysis of the elections; constitutional process; formation of the government; regional politics and development of power; media.

NIQASH is a comprehensive and continuously updated archive to politics in Iraq, which for many experts in- and outside the country after 2003 has become an important source of information. Especially the authenticity and minuteness of the informations, as well as the comprehensive availability of "grey literature" is highly valued by the users.

LIQA

LIQA is a digital exchange of letters between experts from Iraq, its neighboring countries, and Europe. 28 select participants from 9 different cities (Beirut, Baghdad, Amman, Khartoum, London, Berlin, Damascus, Amsterdam, Paris) write each other letters on questions situated at the intersection of politics and art. Topics range from strategies for dealing with the past in art and politics to concepts of political responsibility in media work to the development of identity as a topic of theater and film projects. The resulting texts, letters, and opinions are published on the Niqash website. http://www.niqash.org/liqa.

In LIQA (meeting) the external perspective meets the internal one. The goal of the conversations is the exchange of arguments and points of view on controversial Iraqi topics between Iraqi and non-Iraqi experts located inside the country and abroad.



Electionnaire

The "Electionnaire" is an interactive online software that educates the user about the content of the parties participating in an election. The user is asked to agree or disagree, per mouse click, to 30 statements on political core issues. At each new statement s/he can inform him-/herself about the respective position of all main political parties. At the end of the dialog the Electionnaire informs the user on which political party closest represents his/her own positions.

The Electionnaire developed by MICT within the framework of Niqash focused on the programs of the parties, lists and candidates participating in the December 2005 elections in Iraq. Particularly against the background of an election campaign that was very emotional and focused on religious and ethnic aspects, the availability of such a tool, which focuses on political issues, seemed useful and necessary.

Online School

MICT has developed a unique online application for remote training of radio journalists. Through this application an expert or teacher in charge is able to comment directly and on-time to a radio report that has been submitted by a student. The teacher can either add a comment to a specific part of the audio file (which is directly attached to this part) or can submit an in depth comments on the student's reports. The student responds to the comments in an extra text space.

MICT has selected young Iraqi radio journalists and trained them in a comprehensive four-week online course designed to develop their skills in gender-sensitive journalism.
